History

The Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards was incorporated in 1972 and initially consisted of 25 members. Today the Council is comprised of 30 Mental Health and Substance Abuse Agencies. The purpose of the Council is to act as a liaison between its members, the Federal Government, the State Legislature, and the Alabama Department of Mental Health. The Council offers continuing education workshops and conferences for its members and for social workers, psychologists, counselors, nurses, teachers, consumers, family members, and other mental health professionals.

Our Mission

The Alabama Council of Community Mental Health Boards represents its members in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive system of public mental health care. Our members are public providers responsive to the mental health needs of our community dedicated to achieving the highest standards of providing service.

Our Vision Statement

The Community Mental Health System in Alabama will be recognized as the nations premiere network of dynamic and innovative public mental healthcare.
